Q.I.M.R includes a number of cleanroom laboratory spaces which required specialised construction methods, techniques and commissioning. All spaces had to be tested and certified to operational laboratory standards and all PC3 or Cleanrooms spaces were required to achieve an air leakage rate not to exceed 75 litres/minute with the room pressurised to 150 Pa greater than the surrounding areas.

This requirement is due to micro-bacterial decontamination. In such an event, the room is fumigated with formaldehyde gas, a substance considered to be a potential carcinogen and one which should not leak from the space during the fumigation process.
